Meet brothers and Co-Founders of AfroPick Gemille Walker, Shaquille Walker, and Zarrius Walker. Often described as “unorthodox”, the Walker Boys grew up in a diverse family that encouraged them to explore their own paths in life while celebrating their differences.

“We have seen and met so many people across all walks of life, and we have realized that what connects us all are stories. Stories about us. About our beginnings, our traditions, our part in it all,” the Walkers tell BLK OCEANS. “AfroPick is us exploring our little part in it all by filling a need in the marketplace for more products that encourage self-identity in our community, by illuminating stories of our culture.”

Working with independent artists from around the world, the brothers are able to tell stories and share the beauty of Black culture through the designs depicted on each pick.

To date, one of their best-selling designs is Power, representing solidarity through images of some of the most powerful moments of Black American history. Another best seller is Tribe, which speaks to a past not forgotten and points to the beginnings that lead to the cultures of the African diaspora today.

In the coming months, the Walkers will be expanding into additional afro pick products, including new collections and designs, all while continuing to introduce individual stories through their upcoming blog.

“Afro picks are more than just an incredible tool to take care of our natural hair,” reads a statement on the website. “They are also a symbol of the unity and strength in black culture, and have the potential to tell a powerful story. A story about you and about our culture. A story that can change the world.”
