It’s time to unwind. You throw on a cozy set of pajamas, press play on your favorite playlist and burn a candle to take you on a mellow journey. For you, it’s a calming routine, for one woman, it’s the essence of her entire brand.

Meet Ashley Brabham, Creator of MĀKTUB Studio, the Los Angeles-based retailer known best for their line of hand-mixed candles. Ashley launched her brand in early 2020 with the goal of bringing together the two things that brought her the most peace: music and candles. It’s a combination that has long served her well, and she wanted to share it with the world.

Ashley was eager to chat about her brand and the journey of seeing her vision grow from an idea to a whole vibe.

What sets MĀKTUB Studio apart from other candle brands?

MĀKTUB candles are made with music in mind. Each scent is specifically curated based on a song, and each candle features lyrics from that song. They come in a keepsake tin, along with a matchbox and music playlist.

What have been some of your best selling products to date?

The Savage Summer limited release was one of my best selling and most creatively fun projects I created. The first volume of the 2020 Summer Mix Series features a trio of sweet, sexy, and sultry fragrances to spark your inner savage mode, while the playlist features three 6oz candles, a matchbox and a music playlist.

Looking forward, what can we expect to see from MĀKTUB Studio in the coming months?

MĀKTUB Studio will be delivering more unexpected music-inspired candle playlists, as well as other product offerings that continue to celebrate the therapeutic role music plays in our lives.

After the tragic killing of George Floyd, I also decided 100% of profits from the Stay Woke candle will be donated to Color of Change + Black Lives Matter organizations indefinitely, in support of ending racial injustices and police brutality against Black Americans.
